| what a wonderful treatment of this formulistic universe. While I can't say I enjoyed the story, it was beautifully written and the characters wonderfully believeable. You should be proud to have created such a lovely story in such a cramped universe. One suggestion: being severely obese and female I have gotta tell you. the hardest part of starting a new exercise regime is not maintaining discipline in the face of empathy and momentum of inactivity but fear of pain. Years of inactivity ended suddenly can cause a whole lot of pain. Your back aches, your breasts hurt, your nipples burn from rubbing on stuff, your thighs burn from where they rubbed together, your calves ache from the pounding you gave them, your heels ache and the metatarsal callus will probably throb and lets talk about the worst sore throat you can imagine from breathing heavy. I won't even get into the sweat burns and the fact that inactive sweat pores can actually cause blisters cuz they are clogged or covered over. Then lets talk about the low blood sugar that forces you to eat (even if its a healthy propper food) several times a day or pass out. Other than these couple of technical flaws... your depiction of a thin person becoming fat/obese is relatively humane and personable. Danielle. |

| I liked this one more than Turkish Delight. It read better, and Henri's situation is a bit nicer than there other Hero/Heroine's tale. The two ex-soldiers didn't have to deal with many of the other stories problems. It didnt't go as in depeth as the first story, but it still made a much better read. You also wrote a sequel loosely connected to the first story, a nice touch. It left your story open to new things intead of becoming reduant. I new set of situations for new chars. Nothing was ever old! I also noticed how you have left a convient hole for yet ANOTHER tale about this book of spells. Could the gypsy girl appear in Louisiana? The thief who stole it might become a woman? Someone could steal it and use it's powers? It's pretty much a whole new universe, and I wouldn't mind writing a story in it. It has a world of possiblities. The only thing that stuck out at me was the ending. It seemed a tad rushed, even too convient. But I noticed the abruptness of the ending is a trademark from Turkish Delight. Still it made an intersting situation. This is actual literature, able to stand on it's own. Lovely story writing ablity. I could see this as a chapter of stort stories all connected by the magic book. It would make a great book if all the stories were collected. Perpahs a collection of journals found in modern times by someone who is tracking the book?AS I said, your possibilites are many. Please write more. 10.4 out of 10 (yes, it's not proper math) on the ever present Starson-Scale. |
