| This has been a rivetting psychological mystery. Not in the manner of some convoluted film script, but the kind that real parents and psychologists really face, with the burden of doing the right thing by the child, at the risk of serious repercussions down the road. And it's maddening that Jamie is so little help in all this, but a kid that age doesn't have the vocabulary of ........ identity or whatever, to really know or explain his/herself. No wonder so many parents take the time-honored route, telling their kids with possible GID, "Shut up! You can't have a doll, you're a boy and that's that! Stop that! I'll give you something to cry about! Why you rotten little sissy-" ....shaming them into compliance with the expected gender role, which does seem to solve the problem in the short term. Kinda like tossing toxic waste into the landfill. But Ginny's of course is the saner, wiser, more loving course; God bless her! Great story, with great characters, that has me rooting not for a young transgirl to find herself and be accepted (like one does with all the stories where the prognosis is so obvious), but simply for the truth, the best for this adorable kid... |
