| This is a beautifully written story by someone who knows how to paint with words. It doesn't fit any of the standard TG genres -- in fact it reminded me when I finished it of the kind of story Philip K Dick might have been tempted to write if he was a tad more mystical and a bit more concerned with emotion. | I keep returning to this story. The character of Amber fascinates me, the mixture of maternalism and amorality. She truely doesn't see anything wrong with what she has done (nor, as a matter of fact, do her cohorts, but, then, they don't care; it's their business.) She really believes she's doing what's best for Alex. In her mind, what she wants will always be what's best for the person she's doing it to, so no guilt. She is a truely selfish and amoral person. I imagine if the conditioning were removed and Alex were allowed to have and express his real feelings about the change she would have incredibly hurt feelings. |
