Nice story. Good moral ending and a fairly original idea. Especially liked the elevator bit! Made me laugh out loud just thinking about that sort of situation. Keep it up! |

Another great chapter in the Andersonville saga!Kelly painted an interesting contrast between Colonel Myers and Chris Barnes:One is a trim, organized person, concerned about his actions and how they affect the world. He's loyal and trustworthy, and takes care of his people. He takes responsibility for what happened - even though he knew the consequences.Barnes, on the other hand, is a fat twit; concerned about himself. He's venal, accepts no responsibility for his actions, and tries to weasel his way out of what has happened. Also interesting that they were both 'exiled'; one *from* Andersonville, the other *to* Andersonville.Kind of a good/bad, light/dark dichotomy.(Hmmm...I must research the Seven Deadly Sins, and see how many apply to Barnes...Sloth, Gluttony and Greed come to mind.)I must give some kudos to Barnes, he's highly intelligent, and quickly figured out what was going to happen after the accident and transformation. He took steps to protect himself, didn't try to run, and tried to work his way out of a bad situation. I admit, he was greedy and unrepentant when he tried to deal with Herns and Butz.I wonder how Judge Herns would have treated him if he'd pleaded for mercy from the court?I also wonder how he would have turned out if he'd been able to channel his energy and intelligence while younger, who knows, he could have been working for Andersonville, not stuck there! |
