Hi, Gerhard Domagk saved more lives during the twentieth century than any other person in the history of that dreadful century. Domgk received the Nobel Prize for his first major drug discovery, Prontosil, in 1934. One cannot receive a Nobel Prize twice in the same field, so his second, postwar discovery, Isoniazid, went without the recognition it deserved—a brief respite from the horror of TB, which may have accounted for one death in six in northern Europe in the latter decades of the nineteenth century. No more pneumnoectomies! (At least, not until antibiotic-resistant forms of TB came out of the Soviet prison system to prove Surgeon General Stewart's proclamation: "We can close the book on infectious diseases" as utterly wrong as the following: "Flight by machines heavier than air is impractical and insignificant, if not utterly impossible." (Simon Newcomb, Director, U.S. Naval Observatory, 1902). |
He Loves To Dress Up Details |
Really nicely done. I so enjoyed both of these stories. It's nice to find someone else who likes the sweet and sentimental stories instead of a lot of gratuitous sex and violence. Please keep up the good work. |
A Mixed-Up Getaway Details |
One of the problems with being a genius and world famous is that you attract groupies the way a magnet attracts iron filings. These pitiful creatures will do anything to be noticed by the Great. Such is the case of this story here. But by all means go ahead and read it. I think you will be amused by its eager presumption. |
4 Real? Details |
Wonderful story, I really enjoyed it. The humiliation aspects were fantastic and well described. Your stories just keep getting better, hope to see more soon. |
Consequences of Catcalling Details |
Absolutely beautifully-written and good-natured story, one of your best. And that's saying quite a bit. |
