| I've been following this story since I first spotted it here at FM. I haven't commented on it til now because I have been lazy. I have no other excuse. To rectify that error of omission, let me say that I am completely blown away by this story. There have been a few stories that have gone the length of this one, notably the FURY series. This tale has become, easily, the best I have read in years. The characters are all very real to me, and their enotions and reactions ring so true that it's scary. VERY, very well done Mark. I have no doubt that this will become a "classic" in this genre, although to tell the truth, it could be a classic in ANY genre. Thank you very much for all the hard work it must have taken to make this story what it is, which is truly remarkable, and for allowing us to have access for it for free. You could EASILY have sold this tale to a publisher and we would have all had to pay to read it. Having read it, I would have paid for the priveledge. I am anxiously awaiting the conclusion. | Skin Deep: The Dance - Chapter 10 Details |
| I couldn't finish Part 2, despite having greatly enjoyed Part 1. Two basic reasons, which have been enumerated below but bear repeating: 1. Nothing happens, and not at great speed. 2. The main character is no longer recognizably Sherlock Holmes, nor does the atmosphere feel authentic. I quit when I realized that I was just slogging through, waiting for another interlude with Moriarty. I started expecting a gender-bent Sherlock Holmes adventure, but eventually tired of reading about "Sherla" playing dress-up with corsets. I was also expecting something more original than the whole "horniness as the result of sex change" angle. For what it is, this is well-written if a bit repetitive, and there's an audience for it. I don't think I'm part of it, and if you're looking for a Holmes story, you may not be either. |
