| Well! A totally original take on a transgendered fiction story, which in very few words says volumes about the characters and their history: a wicked father who stole intellectual property from a brilliant young scientist, a worthless son who loses his mind - and his testicles, an unseen transformation from castrated boy to beautiful woman, not to mention the paralysis scene! All of this takes place “off camera” but is clearly portrayed thanks to the author’s brilliantly spare prose. |

| I loved this. You displayed an excellent sense of empathy, allowing the reader (in this case, me:)) to truly understand the main character and his situation. I felt I could identify with this. All in all, beautiful. |

| Dear John, (hmmm, that has a sad ring to it doesn't it?) First off, let me say that i'm glad that you're still reading the story. As for narration, "Joan" is the only one using "I" in non-dialogue situations. As for "when" the story takes place, it's obvious that it isn't "now." However, it's also obvious (from my perspective) that it does take place in the recent past. Darla the character and Darla the author have no relation to one another. Well, when i began writing the story i thought it might be fun to put in a cameo appearnace. Darla (the character) had other ideas. You see, i'm writing without a net. No notes, no outlines, no nothing! The characters literally come alive while i'm typing. Things happen that even surprise me! in a sense, i'm a reader of my own story. And finally, the story won't take years to tell...lol.. though sometimes it seems as if it will. Hell, early in "Joan's Room" joan spent two chapters talking about painting a room PINK! lol..(chapters 3 and 4). "Joan's Room" is book two of a planned trilogy. that's all i'm going to say on that particular subject. i'd like to think that my tale is more than brain candy. i'm also aware that it isn't proust. i've done my best to keep everything as close to "real" as possible. i hope you'll be along for the rest of the ride. always, darla... |
