Random Reviews

I only recently discovered your stories, and Fictionmania as well. I have read all but five of your stories and you are by far my favorite author here, your only rival is the Professor and yet I keep your stories in mind far more than his. It is probably because of you careful plotting combined with most of your works historical setting. Now enough fawning on you, and while I have enjoyed some of your modern stories as well, I think Plaything and Remodelled are by far your worst efforts. Plaything isn't even really a story, but Remodelled is and it has many many defects. When I read it I thought that even the plot itself was defective, and not just the ugly revenge aspect, the cruelty, and the unengaging and unsympathetic characters. I disliked the formulaic pacing and the persistent feeling that this was a very contrived sex fantasy. But reading Pretty Edith I realized you had initially picked the wrong character as your protaganist. One of the things I like about your work is that they are interesting stories that even if I lacked any autogynephylic feeling I would enjoy them and find them of interest. This especially applies to your early modern historical pieces but even your mrs Braithwaite and ww2 and later stories. What makes them interesting is the dilemna that the newly made heroine faces because of her changed circumstances. Sometimes it is very engaging and sometimes it is like Requittal, but it is very interesting and I always find them not just pleasurable but even thought provoking. Remodelled just seemed to lack this. But here though it was not as developed as it could be, the character of Edith was inherently compelling. As Edward he was a weak person, he knew that being a transexual was a parody of his desires, a falseness, what he wanted was to be a woman and yet being a fatalist and "realistic" he accepted this. He was not actually homosexual he was turned on by feminity, but he wanted that side of the relationship. He was not a candidate for any kind of sex change that was not magic yet he was lonely and a cenobite. When he declares himself, his miracle happens but he is still the weak passive person he was before. He truly is womanly in his need to be filled with an external will. His transformation int she fills her with a sense of being right for the first time, even before Sal it is clear that she desires to end her celibacy because now she can be filled. But at the same time having lived until now in a stare of self hate and self pity she has no strong center, her sense of self is dependent on things outside her like her gratitude. So she betrays Ssl, she continues to go along with a plan she knows is wrong and even confronted by her concience she participates in slavery and rape. But at the same time being a woman gives Edith something. She finally is physically matched to her mentality and is more sure of herself. She can finally become someone who is capable of a will that comes from her own needs and desirs. Sure she is following when she frees Natasha, but she is also acting for her own need. What makes her stand up and free Natasha is what gives her the courage to see herself in Sal and flee with him. She was always clever, that is why she filled the safety deposit box, but the initial Edith who was still Edward wasn't able to act for herself. Becoming a woman, a real woman, freed her just as it does so many characters in your stories. Edward was still a man, he may have learned some humility, but otherwise he was not changed by his experience other than physically. He was a rat, but he didn't really need or desire salvation. Edith did. Going back to Requital, Giuseppe is offered salvation and doesn't just fail to take it he lacks even the imagination to realize he needs it, he damns himself. Edith chose salvation and then figured out what to do with it. Natasha is saved without actually being transformed, it is just handed to him. The first story that of Giuseppe in Requital is the tragedy of so many that by definition is unrecognized. Edith's story is that of someone offered some grace who initially misuses it but finds it gives her the power to find the right way. Both of these are compelling. Revenge fantasies are not. Thank you for the dtory, I enjoyed it a lot, and having read so much of your work in the past few months I felt I had something to say. I eagerly await your upcoming work.

Clever, well writen, funny tale - in the top drawer of SRU stories.

Great story!! So many of you want happy, sappy stories. Ugh! Nice story, Cindi. Sequel? Oh, and Vicki---lighten up!!!
Rebecca's Peace     Details
Very well paced, well written story. One unrealistic note: Any acid bath sufficient to destroy all hair follicles would be highly damaging to the skin and extremely painful. A week of electrolysis sessions would have been far more realistic. There would still be a lot of swelling and pain, though.

Just re-read this story after a break of several months and enjoyed it even more the second time. Channing's silver stockings and matching top sound beautiful and the bit where he plays with his garter tab under his short, tight skirt is very enticing. I also like the sound of his make-up, hair and smooth skin. Please, please write a sequel.
