| The Dance: Part Two Details |
| Lovely, sweet, gentle, pretty stuff. It's another TG take on "Bewitched"--thought not directly. It would have been interesting had you actually used the show and its characters: they all exist in our collective unconcious, and I think putting Darren Stevens into the role of the husband might have allowed for an interesting fleshing-out of the character we already know--perhaps the nervous male account executive that he is would find a consequently greater peace when he becomes a nursing mother? And of course Samantha is already in Grace, but Samantha's character could also fit well into this story: her initial incredulousness at the situation modulating into sweet acceptance, perhaps? Many TG possibilities... That said, I think you did wonderfully with the characters you created. This is one of the most "justifiable" reasons I've seen for a man to become a woman. And the fact that the wonder and the beauty of his experience create a desire in his "normal" male self to become a woman is also compelling TG stuff. It might call for a sequel. |
| I Would If I Could Details |
| I was a little concerned going into this one, since I've read a couple of other stories that tried the screenplay format and would have been better off as regular prose. But by the time I got to the title card, you had me convinced. The documentary style -- I say 'documentary' because the final product is presented more as an investigative piece than as the mockumentary that was initially conceived -- is well-suited to a tale with so many outsize Hollywood personalities who are "always on." I also want to touch on the ending without being too spoilery. Still, stop here if you haven't read it yet. That last confrontation is especially intriguing because it draws attention to not just one unseen hand working "behind the scenes" but two: both sides are implicated in manipulating thing to their ends. The one covertly directing Tristan's life, and the other "re-directing" his life to make past events fit into a coherent narrative. I was just too caught up in the superficial twists and turns of Tristan's fate to consider a deeper motive either for a) what happened to Tristan and when it happened or b) what was included in the script and when it was included. I don't often see those kind of meta-narrative issues raised in stories on FM. That double 'turn of the screw' makes for a strong ending and adds a lot to re-readability. |
