| well from reading just this chapter it makes me wonder if the wife ever truly loved her husband. it seems simply cruelty and she loves treating him cruelly. SHe has ilegal imprisonment, domestic violence, battery assault. might be able to include sexual assault. IF a husband treated his wife this way it would be no chalange for a divorce. |

| Not a bad start. You need to consider an editor. There are minor errors that would have been caught. I agree with other posts about the technical problems. You went overboard on the injury and the mother would not have known weher to call. They met at church so it would have worked for Aunt Joan to call his mother. By the way, the Aunt Joan part doesn't bother me a bit. To me it adds to the characterization. It tells me that this woman is willing to treat everyone like a relative -- sticking her nose in where it doesn't belong, at times. You could slow your pace substantially and draw the reader into the story. Appeal more to the sense. Give us more insight into what he is thinking. describe the scene more. Change the dialogue a bit tells us more about each person. Although novelists use both "I said" and "Said I" -- you should pick one style and stick with it. If I were you, I would start over. You are obviously a good enough writer - who rushed this before it was in final draft. I did it all the time when I was writing for FM.
