This is a well written start to a longer storyline. I look forward to more.
How it ended     Details
Short, sweet story. I don't think it matters to the story in what time period it takes place, or even in what country. Those details are unimportant. I like stories that take place mostly in someone's head, since I think it's more about how someone feels about crossing gender lines (and how they feel about how others see them, react or respond to them, etc.) than about what happens. A TS or cis girl who puts on a dress has a much less interesting experience than someone like your character or some straight guy who was forced to or tricked into wearing one...and your character was not even wearing a dress, just clothes that he perceived as being "girl's clothes," yet for him it had that same effect. He may not even have changed his hair or put on makeup, but it was enough of a difference for himself to change how he presented himself so that others perceived him as female. My only complaint is the one I have whenever I read about a character I like: I wish the story was longer. I don't mean longer in the sense that there should be more events, although that might also be good. I, for one, really appreciate an author who takes the time to delve into every detail of a character's thoughts, doubts, wishes, anticipations, responses, and reactions to every small event, and this story is perfect for that kind of expansion. His awareness of everything in the world intensified, he notices the teens, wonders what they think, ponders what might happen if he was discovered, if he did not pass. He bumps into the man and falls down. In that tenth of a second before anything else happens you could describe all his fears about what the man will think, about his ability to pass, about what might happen if the man discovers the truth, about all the things that could go wrong. Then they don't go wrong! Joy! Exuberance! Relief! The man did not scold him or ask why a boy would dress in girl's clothes or any of the bad things he imagined, and instead called him a girl! Your one line describing his response could be a couple of paragraphs. You could have written about a dozen more such conflicting emotions in that simple walk across the park, the experiences he had in the store, and the walk back home. He bought some candy. Did he have a purse for the money, or did his sister's shorts have pockets? He might wonder if he's acting right. Do girls carry a sack of candy differently than boys? Has he ever paid attention to that? Does he search out other females holding things to try to copy them? The store is the halfway point and now he has to go back across the park to his home. He now knows that he can pass, so how is his experience of the trip back different because of that? Does he hold his head a little higher, and walk with more confidence? Does he risk going closer to the teenagers to see if they will also take him for a girl? Does he perhaps try more girlish things like skipping instead of walking? Or is he even more scared that he'll somehow be found out, knowing that whoever sees him and doubts his sex could then see him walk into his own front door and know who he really is? I guess it's like the difference between a simple slice of pizza and the multiple layers of a lasagna. They both are made with flour, tomato sauce and cheese, they both taste great in their own ways, but what a difference in complexity!

I really enjoyed this story. It had just the right mix of maliciousness and innocense that made it very believable (of corse, after suspending belief in the first place!). I agree with the other comments - this is the most polished of Bash's works to date, although I felt the ending could have been a little better - it was too abrupt for me. Thanks Bash - keep 'em coming
ToothFairy.net: Why I Hate My Little Brother     Details
This was a story that needed to be written as the original series had "Body Swap" written all over it, but failed to produce a tg episode with that particular theme. Eric and Caleb both did a good job writing this story as it's funny, entertaining, and is of a high quality just as you would expect from them.

If I were to edit an anthology of gender-related stories, Pick-Up Line is one I'd probably like to include. Quiet and educational (!). Classy number.
