Great story. Different than any I've read in a long time. I'd certainly like to see a sequal. It would seem to me to be to the prison's advantage to encourage "girlygirl" behavior. Is there a beauty school in the prison, a school in the feminine graces? I'd like to see what develops in the Jake/Lana relationship - maybe Jake does go girlygirl and gets adopted by Lana (She'd be an adult when he got out.) What about his wife making a deal to get him out early, still as a little girl, her "daughter", so she can humiliiate him; lana helps him endure his wife/mother?

Thanks so much. This is a terrific chapter. The love and intimacy between Nichole, Matt and Bella is wonderful. It looks like the therapy has removed Nicholes embarrasment and she's falling for Matt and giving in to her female self. Anna seemed kind of distant/disconnected. Nichols will gravitate to Matt. However, spooned to her in bed, Matt will find her secret. I bet he'll be ok with it. I hope Nichols offers her other option to him. Plus there is something she has to finish with those lips!

I am getting down on my knees and kissing the ground for such a wonderful and perfect story! I remember reading one much like this a few months ago and I couldn't help but want to cry after reading it. You have really done an excellent and tasteful job with this story and idea. I loved the chars here and I really, really was hoping they would make it though. I was moved in just about every way. Man, this is the hope that I live for when i read stories on here. Thank you so much for this powerful short story. I think you have written a top 10 classic here. IN Starson we trust. . .in starson we trusted.

I really enjoyed this story when it first came out on the list -- saved it on my hard drive, etc. But then I was saddened to hear that Raven hung up her pen. I do sympathize with her statements; yet I can't help but wonder how any one could let such a well crafted beginning just go by-the-way-side. Another comment: I sometimes have difficulty in believing the depictions of South East/East Asians/Pacific Islanders. Personally, I found 'A Future No Longer Mine' ideologically offensive, and not a tad bit Orientalist -- but still an interesting read. To much Ann Rand (sp?) perhaps? I might make the ame comment on 'the pearl.' The images, while vividly crafted, still make me think of that offensive occidental tendency towards Orientalism. *Sigh* But this is just my two-pence. Other than the sub-text I mentioned above, I found both stories fun. AND I certainly encourage both writers to pursue whatever topics, issues, etc. they feel like tackling. To wit: Please don't read this as a flame. You and the rest of the authors are great; and whether or not I take issue with one thing or another should not deter you from obeying your muse.
