TG Tales from the Panty Drawer     Details
A cardinal rule of creative writing is that the writer must create a willing suspension of disbelief on the part of the reader. This story fails that test in all of its characters. They are simply unbelievable. JANET: Who is she: the "prissy" prude who won't blow Keith or let him ass-fuck her, or the minx who "fucks like a rabbit?" How can she be both Miss Prissy who cuts off Keith for six months (unexplained) and the woman who engages in premarital sex, including jacking her boyfriend off after they just had sex; "so perceptive" that she realized that Keith was turned on by sissies; and, willing to confide to him that her brother dresses up? She is from a small town in Kansas, wants her own career, yet she is only 19 and not going to college or pursuing any other type of education or training. What type of "career" can a nineteen-year old high school graduate in small town/rural Kansas have? Keith's traveling should have been icing on her cake! KEITH'S PARENTS AND THE FAMILY BUSINESS: How is it that Keith's parent are so conservative that they would not have a daughter-in-law who engages in recreational drug use, yet their family business engages in illegal acts including drugs and having shady lawyers on the payroll? What kind of legitimate--or illicit--business can they have that requires their son, or any member of the business, to constantly travel? Wheat? Corn? Cattle? Fertilizer? That's what this story is! Ms. Wright put these people in Kansas, not New York or California, both of which have small towns as provincial as anything one finds in Kansas. KEITH: This character is a real piece of work! First, how old is he? If he is dating a teenager, and needs to get married to satisfy his parents' expectations, he can't be beyond his mid-twenties. This is small-town Kansas, after all. Not only not much May-December, not much May September either. Second, given his age and location, where has he had the time and the opportunity to turn "hundreds" of sissy boys into women? Again, this is Kansas, not the Castro! Third, why does he have to set Janet up to have her sissy brother? Sending a 19-year old to prison for 10-15 years is a bit much for some sissy's ass, especially when you've had sissy ass--virgin sissy ass, at that--hundreds of times before. And what state gives a white middle-class nineteen-year old female first offender 10-15 years? After all, she was arrested for using, not dealing. Not even Kansas is that regressive. Why not a conventional wedding and marriage between Janet and Keith, with Keith keeping Wendy as his sissy mistress? When Keith travels, Wendy can travel with him, leaving Janet to pursue her "career" in small-town Kansas. If they ever run into someone from back home, Wendy can pretend she's Janet. If the aim is to remove Janet completely and replace her with Wendy, something less drastic than Janet doing hard time should be available to a writer of Ms. Wright's abilities. JANET'S MOM: Here we have the stereotypical small town social climber whose daughter has snagged the scion of the wealthiest family in the county. So anxious is she that her daughter's future be assured, that she is willing to have her only son impersonate Janet on the wedding day. Yet, without reason, she is willing to have that daughter spend the next 10-15 years of that future in prison! For what? Living in Hawaii, she cannot gloat at the local bridge club and church meetings what a match her daughter made. She has abandoned her daughter, and with that abandonment her only hope of having grandchildren, a prime motivation for such women. Doesn't she want to visit Janet? Her only son is no more, and the woman he has become she sees only twice a year. No family, no friends, cut adrift from everything that made her life worthwhile--to have her son as the sissy wife of the man who framed her daughter? In what alternate universe did Ms. Wright find this woman? DAD: The only somewhat realistic character, and then only somewhat. Why does he move to Hawaii? Like his wife, his family, friends, business connections--everything--is in Kansas. Most importantly, his daughter is in Kansas, albeit in a Kansas prison! Even if he doesn't know about the frame-up, doesn't he love her? Wouldn't he want to be able to visit her--often? (If he does know about the frame-up, then his behavior is totally inexplicable and unnatural.) Not wanting to see his transexed son is understandable. He is a typical Midwesterner who doesn't understand how he fathered and reared a gay son. I am also a Midwesterner, and I don't understand how either parent could abandon Janet--even if they believe she's guilty. WENDY: Yes, I've saved our little sissy for last. At the beginning of the story he calls his sister a "bonehead" yet he knows the truth about her being busted. How does one go from being the loving brother who is willing to impersonate his sister to save her future marriage to the mean and vindictive sissy who lets that sister rot in prison for 10-15 years on a frame-up? After only one night of getting his ass punked! And sends her photos of his/her Grecian honeymoon to boot? His/her "life is as perfect as possible? Sister Janet is doing hard time; does he ever visit her? His parents are living in Hawaii, he sees his mother twice a year; he never sees his father. He is the sissy wife of the man who framed his sister and refers to him as "bitch," "slut," "cocksucker," and "cunt." And why should Wendy fall for Keith? He's a liar, a cheat, a crook, verbally and physically abusive, vindictive, scheming, unprincipled--oh yes, the Bad Boy! Is being the wife/girlfriend/mistress to Johnny Rotten part of the sissy fantasy? Even to the point of abandoning a sister you've grown up with for nineteen years! If Keith was willing to send Janet to prison just to get at Wendy's ass, what will happen when he tires of her. After all, he admits he's not capable of being faithful. Wendy knows about the frame-up, the illicit family business, Keith's bisexuality. I don't think Wendy's perfect life will last long--or her life. Who's the bonehead, now? One other thing. Champagne is the wine, Champaign is a city in Illinois (home of the University of Illinois) or a lake in upstate New York or the name of the French explorer for whom both were named.

Your beautifully written story seems to glow with the spirit Dad always tried to impart to his characters and works. He set the PENNY WISHES universe as a subset of SRU because of his great admiration for you and your work. Very Sentimental and Sweet....he has such a nice friend... Yes, those were the beginning training bras girls entering puberty had in the 60s, 70s, 80s...along with those teen magazines and puberty booklets...you provided such nice descriptions and illustrations! It's nice you chose to end it as you did...the situation you're describing seems to assure they'd eventually be some difficult consequences- especially with the boy's mom and macho brother!
