| For a first-time writer, this is a good attempt! You write well, and I suspect you draw a lot of your imaginative prose from personal experience? Don't be afraid to make more of a plot out of this. It's a nice fantasy, but in future installments maybe include some conflict to be resolved or some problem/obstacle that must be overcome. What you've written is good, but it reads a little like a "Dear Diary" entry rather than a story. Stories should have an inciting incident, rising action, all that stuff ... Maybe you intended it this way; I'm just throwing out my opinion. I really hope you will write more though, Indy. Thanks for sharing and please write again! |

Eric, Gotta let you know that I liked this story. It was effective and packed a punch at the end. However, I've re-read the story several times and find myself wishing there was another chapter to the story. I can understand the original Donnie's desire to be Jim because 'he' now has a better life. I can't understand the new Donnie accepting her fate as a hooker though. If that were me, I'd be PO'd at the shrink and demand help from her. If help wasn't immediately forthcoming, I might be pushed into considering revenge. Both the psychiatrist and the new Jim are prime targets for the new Donnie's ire. Graham Masterson's 'The Changeling' sought revenge after he because a fantasy woman. Even with no help from anyone, I can't see someone who was achiever like the original Jim accepting his fate so easily. Fleeing the city and and getting help in a shelter are options that also spring to mind. Even a heroid addiction can be surmounted. Besides if Donnie was as good looking as I imagined her to be she'd at least be able to get paid for selling herself. Still, whether Donnie's future is recorded for us to read about or not, this story was a good one. Any story that has me thinking about it for several days after definitely deserves high marks in my book! ...ssmouse |
