| I feel very ambivalent about this story. On the one hand I'm glad that Bob was able to take his life under his over-bearing mother and turn it around to live a fully and happier life as Barbie. But at the same time I feel that calling this a "bad boy to good girl" tale is a bit of a streach. Bob was just a normal teenage boy with normal sexual leanings. His only crime was having to deal with a tight-ass mother. (At best it should be considered a "normal boy to naughty girl" tale in MHO.) And Eleanor, Bob's mother is is serious need for some mental help, since she is so tied up in her women's (sorry, I mean womyn's) movement that she has lost any sense of caring for her offspring, wither Bob is a son or a daughter to her. She gives even fem-nazies a bad name. (Makes you wonder what Bob's father did to her that turned her in to such a self-righteous harridan.) And then there is Cynthia. At first I liked her as I thought she was doing something to help Bob and his mother to see the folly in all this. But then in the end she stands revealed to be an opportunist, who seems to use people and preys on their misery too further her own ends then you can see why I feel the way I do about this tale. |
