| haha, you kids, you're teases. Excellent. It's so great to read something really interesting, funny, self-aware, full of in-jokes and references... it's like the TG Jame3 Joyce, kind of. | I'm sure someone here, will read this for a review of the story. Along the way I'll certainly try to accomplish that, but mostly I want to say... Thank you Mickey, thank you very much indeed! Perhaps there are other stories posted here who deal with this, and deal with it as well as you do here, but I haven't seen one... and I have read Fictionmania since at least 1994, or perhaps a little earlier. No other has dealt this realistically with the counseling process at least. As I commented on your story "Don and Dexter," I am a mtf transgender who withdrew part way through the process. Reading this installment actually made me a tremble a bit as old memories surfaced afresh. The counseling process is not magic, much as we might wish it were. It really is all about finding out who you are and what you can or cannot live with. This is what I've never seen a realistic depiction of in another story, unless it is a bio, and none of those I read touched the counseling process. Everyone searches for a compromise they can live with. And each of us tries to bend our reality to something more palatable. This can lead us to place burdens on our families that they cannot meet. I think all of us have lost a loved one who could not deal with us, sometimes our entire family. Some of us (I did) come out too fast or tell others we shouldn't tell and pay a nasty consequence. Ultimately, I lost my profession. Dawn finally starts to realize this in this part of the story and has misgivings. Yet, without confronting these issues we cannot make progress. Dawn is out there now, and I will be interested how she faces these issues. I certainly do not want to prefigure the story too much so I won't go there now, but... A side note: In my case, all the counselors I met were all born female, though I corresponded with one ts counselor in San Francisco when first seeking my own counselor. I found many males who were endocrinologists and surgeons who were very sympathetic to the community, but personally, never a gender dysphoria counselor. I'm sure there must be some somewhere. Still, I wouldn't be surprised if the nameless counselor here turned out to be an ftm. All in all, a good read. The questioning has the ring of truth. Dawn's answers were better than my own were in some ways. It is difficult to answer well in such a circumstance. Brava! Well done! |
