| Considering the 'lighter' tone of most of the Nerds stories, I kind of expected the first story 'Bikini Beach: The Nerds - Revenge' to be the Nerds series' final word on 'rape and revenge'. Therefore, I was surprised when this story turned up. This story is darker and more disturbing than the previous installments -- and it should be, considering the subject matter. Date rape is not something that should be handled lightly. I wouldn't be surprised if this story was written in response to criticism over the downplaying of the 'rape' in the first story. Anyway, I feel that the story succeeds in portraying date rape as the horrific crime it is. The scene where Rob is forced to submit to her captors' demands is disgusting, but that's the point -- it wouldn't do to present it as 'glamorized', 'sanitized', or 'glorified'. I think you did a good job of handling this rather sensitive subject. I'm also glad you didn't resort to the predictable ending of luring the villains to Bikini Beach. While every once in a while, turning a sexual predator into a nymphomaniac can be effective, that angle is overused in TG fiction. I'm eager to see where Rob and Vicki go from here. One should keep in mind that they're both going to have psychological scars from this, even though the perpetrators have been caught -- this isn't like recovering a stolen bicycle or something. I hope future stories keep that in mind. |
